‘Pangshu’ shines at SIGNIS awards

Vishakesha Chandrasekaram’s acclaimed film ‘Pangshu’ won the most number of awards including the Best film at recently held 43rd SIGNIS Salutation cinema awards for 2020.

With the awards for the Best Film, the Best Direction and the Best Screen Play, ‘Pangshu’ won 11 out of 22 total awards at the SIGNIS 2020.  The awards were decided on 12 films that were screened during the year 2020.

Vishakesha won the Golden awards for the Best film and Best Screen play while Nadee Kammalweera an Jagath Manuwarna won the Best Supporting actress and the Best Supporting Actor awards.

Playing in ‘Pangshu’, the award for the Best cinematography was won by Dimuthu Kalinga Dissanayake, the Best Editor Sithum Samarajeewa and the Best Art Director was Kumara Karawdeniaya and the Best Colour Grading Ananda Bandara and Mauyura Kanchana won the Jury’s Special certificate for his acting  in ‘Pangshu’. Veteran actress Nita Fernando was awarded the Jury’s special award for the Best Acting.

This year the jury was comprised of veteran filmmaker Dharmasiri Bandaranayake, actor Saumya Liyanage, Inoka Sathyanganie, IndikaFerdinando, ArunaLokuliyana,  SunilWijesiriwardena and Fr. Lala Pushpadeva (chairman).

The Best actor award was won by Shyam Fernando for ‘Avilena Sului’ (Inflammable) directed by Chinthana Dharmadasa while Samanali Fonseka in the same film won the Best Actress. The best musical score was won by Indrachapa Liyanage for ‘Avilena Sului’ .

Among the other awards winners, ‘Suparna’ won the award for the Best Playback singer award for Dumal Warnakulasuriya and the Best Sound mixing for Praveen Jayaratne.

Jury’s special certificates were also won by Menara Weeratunga for her acting in ‘Tsunami’ directed by Somaratne Dissanayake and Kushenya Weeratunga for her acting in ‘Rookada Penchi’ directed by Kalpana and Vindhana Ariyawansa and KasunWeeratunga for his direction of ‘Soosthi’.
