The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and its coalition partners  have said they were prepared to extend support for a national programme to resolve the prevailing crisis.

The SJB said that based on the series of proposals presented by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) they would support the national progamme.

SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara told the Sunday Times that SJB representatives would meet BASL officials today (8) to discuss the proposals.   “We can’t come to a decision right now on whether or not we will support an interim government and take up portfolios or if we will support an interim government from outside,” Mr Madduma Bandara said.

Issuing a statement, the SJB added that “the course of action proposed by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka for abolition of the executive presidency to remove the current President from his office is considered as a key requirement to resolve the existing national crisis.”

Based on the BASL’s proposals to provide immediate solutions to the burning issues of the people and to stabilise the economy, the SJB and SJS (Samagi Jana Sandhanaya or the alliance) have decided to extend their support for a national programme to resolve this crisis, the statement said.
