The Major Club T20 tournament set for May 22
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the rescheduled Major Club T20 tournament will be held from 22 of this month. The change of dates came into effect as the Lanka Premier League player draft for local cricketers needs to be submitted by at least mid-June
Though they had opened the doors for foreigners also to enter, given the status quo of the country, it remains to be seen whether will the clubs make use of it.
In a circular issued by Samantha Dodanwela, the chairman of tournament committee, “a maximum of three foreign players can be registered; but only 2 players are allowed to play in a match”.
All foreign players will be required to submit a valid No Objection Certificate from their respective Home Boards or Associations, at the time of registration.
The 26-team tournament will run till 6 June, and all matches will be played at neutral venues daily until the league stage. The preliminary stage will see 12 match days, with each day having half-a-dozen encounters at each venue hosting double-headers.
At the end of Preliminary round, the group leader of each group determined by the points they had earned, will progress to the semis.
The semis would be worked off between the leaders of A1 and D1, in the first match, and in the second, leaders of B1 and C1.
The winners would walk away with Rs. 750,000 while the runners-up will earn Rs. 500,000.
Player registration for this tournament must be completed on or before May 12. Maximum of 20 players is the quota.
