Coffee while you work or hang out with friends

It was just last Sunday (March 27) that the newest coffee spot in Colombo was opened to the public and already ‘Busy Bean’ seems to be creating quite a buzz on social media. The only cafe tucked away at the Colombo Racecourse promenade, its minimalist modern aesthetic catches your eye.

Its interior matches the sprawling Racecourse grounds with its splashes of green and earthy colour palette. Inviting couches on the ground floor with a decked out corner of games, puzzles and books beckon you to come have a cosy coffee with your friends and loved ones while their functional working spaces fitted with plugpoints will help you focus on your work/studies. Upstairs, you will find some more work spaces and a casual dining arrangement while one corner is a dedicated boardroom space for meetings and more official gatherings.

Busy Bean is the first cafe from the LSR Group of companies and Busy Bean founder Janith Weerasinghe says it was his love for food that drove him to start it. This is apparent from Busy Bean’s extensive menu that ranges from sandwiches, crepes to wraps and burgers. To cool you down, there’s a variety of smoothies, iced teas, coffees and more with of course, the usual variety of hot coffees such as cappuccino, lattes and brewed coffee. Their coffee is sourced from Aga Coffee; it is locally grown, brewed, and roasted.

“With Busy Bean, we’re creating a lively environment for people to enjoy delicious coffee, pastries and food throughout the day. We’re thrilled to be opening in the Colombo Racecourse promenade where we will be part of a community that can share in our culture –to stop in for a coffee, work, or meet with friends,” Janith shared at a special media launch prior to Busy Bean’s grand opening.

During the tour, Janith also showed off his pride and joy and possibly favourite part of the cafe which was a separate display case that has a variety of desserts and pastries from local home bakers. Wanting to support small businesses and local talent, Janith has incorporated them into his cafe by giving them a platform to sell their goods. At the moment, Dessert Bistro, Ashi’s Crafty Cookies, Devi’s Cake Factory, and Sara’s Granola fill up the little kiosk with their goodies and Janith hopes to have more onboard as time goes by.

Busy Bean is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m daily and to inquire about booking the boardroom or for more information, contact them on 0112677866. They are also on Instagram-  @busybean.sl
