The Chamber Music Society of Colombo (CMSC) will present their inaugural concert of the year at the Goethe Hall,  Colombo 7, at 7.15 p.m. on Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27, in association with the Goethe-Institut, Colombo, and with the support of their co-premier sponsors, A. Baur & Co. and Tokyo Cement Group. The concert will follow prevailing COVID-19 protocols.

Titled “Westminster to Bohemia, via Weimar”, it will be approximately 1 hour 15 minutes in duration and take the form of an eclectic musical journey with musicians Lakshman Joseph-de Saram (artistic director) and Sulara Nanayakkara, violin; Rochana Ramanayaka, cello; and Johann Peiris, piano. Each work will be prefaced by a short introduction by the artistic director.

Westminster will be represented by the “Golden Sonata” by Purcell; Weimar will be represented by a lesser known Bach – Wilhelm Friedmann’s Trio Sonata in B-flat, “Tempesta di Mare” (stormy seas); and from Bohemia  Johann Stamitz’s Trio Sonata no. 8 in C; as well as the great Antonin Dvorak’s delectable 5 Bagatelles, Op. 47 (B. 79 for the Burghauser-inclined).

Tickets, priced at Rs. 1000 (first come, first served), will be available at the Goethe-Institut gate, 39, R.G.
