Rajitha Dissanayake’s latest play ‘A Day in July 2019’ (2019 July Mase Dawasak)will premiere at the Lionel Wendt theatre on January 21, 22 and 23 at 7.00 pm.
The play revolves around certain events that take place on an ordinary day, in a year that defined a decade. It further examines the beginning of the myriad crises and dilemmas we are facing as a country and society today.
Rajitha Dissanayake ranks among the top original playwrights to emerge in Sri Lanka in the last 25 years. He has produced popular and award-winning plays like ‘Weeraya Merila’, ‘Sihina Horu Aran’, ‘Apahu Herenna Be’, ‘Bakamoona Veedi Basi’ and ‘Nethuwa Beri Minihek’. His scripts focus on burning socio-political issues and have drawn crowds, sparked debate, won awards and toured internationally.
The cast of ‘A Day in July 2019’ comprises well-known stage and screen actors like
Jayani Senanayake, Anuradha Mallawarachchi, Sampath Jayaweera, Gihan de Chickera, Nalin Lusena, Sulochana Weerasinghe, Prasadini Athapattu and Anuk Fernando.
Music for the play is composed by Mahira Dissanayake, and the set is designed by Dharmapriya Dias and Anuradha Mallawarachchi. Make-up is by Priyantha Dissanayake, lighting design by Ranga Samarakoon and Anuradha Mallawarachchi and costume design by Nalin Lusena and Samadara Mabulage. Lenin Liyanage will be the stage manager.
Presented by Freedom Theater Group and supported by Sunethra Bandaranaike Trust, tickets for ‘A Day in July 2019’ are now available at the Lionel Wendt, priced at Rs 2000, 1500, 1000 and 600 (balcony).
