Taking off on his own solo path
Having been in the Army Medical Corps until 2016, and giving serious thought to music only in 2017, lyricist and rap artist R.V. Dulanja Alwis, a.k.a. Dulan ARX of ‘Manike Mage Hithe’ fame is making waves with his recently released single on YouTube
Riding on the high of being the principal lyricist for the runaway hit ‘Manike Mage Hithe’, R.V. Dulanja Alwis who goes by the stage name Dulan ARX recently released his first solo single that has already garnered over 1 million views and is currently holding the No. 1 spot in music on YouTube.
Despite having a passion for music since he was a child, penning lyrics from his favourite songs back then on notebooks and then trying to write his own music, Dulan only began his career in music in 2017. Having been in the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps since 2012 having followed a General Nursing diploma, he is also a licensed counsellor with a diploma in Counselling & Psychology – a subject he was interested in. The multi-faceted young artist who also holds a diploma in computer science is currently following a Bachelor of Arts (General) external degree at the University of Sri Jayawardenapura.
After working for the Army until 2016, Dulan chose to pursue his passion for music and entered the industry as a hip-hop artist. His first project was a mixtape ‘Senasuru Erashtake’ with five or six hip hop songs and he then went on to collaborate with artist Dimithri for Dulan’s first mainstream song Rusiri which was a hit on the social media platform Tiktok.
“It was while working with others in the music industry and being known as a ‘lyrical trendsetter’, I started working with Chamath Sangeeth on Manike Mage Hithe. Chamath sent me the melody and it took me only a mere 20 minutes to write the song and the rest, like they say, is history,” Dulan says, noting how popular the song became. The number of covers that were produced for it was astounding, he says.

Dulan has now released his first solo single, Rap Malsara, which is rocketing in popularity having garnered over a million views in just a week since its release. “Rap Malsara was a name given to me by my fans and I’m very proud of this single because it’s quite different to what you find in the Sri Lankan music industry. I wrote, sang and even created the storyline for the video,” Dulan says enthusiastically.
There has been great feedback for his song and Dulan expresses his gratitude to his parents, sisters, loved ones and fans who have supported him on his journey thus far.
Dulan hopes to release his first solo album titled ‘Rap Malsara’ in the early part of the year with five or six more songs. “I have already done a few songs for others but now there’s more to come from me,” he promises.
