Showers accompanied by severe lightning will be experienced in some parts of the country with the onset of the inter monsoon condition, the Meteorological

Department warned.

Rains can be expected
mainly in the central part
of the country, Northern,
North Western, Uva and
Eastern Provinces, the
Duty Meteorologist said.

Strong winds and thunderstorms can be expected between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Fairly heavy showers, above 75 mm of rain, can be expected in other parts of the country too.

Mornings could be misty in some areas of Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, Uva and North Central provinces.

The Department has advised people to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by lightning by seeking shelter, avoiding open areas such as paddy fields and open water bodies during thunderstorms.

Public are also advised to refrain from using wired telephones and electric appliances and avoid travelling in open vehicles, such as bicycles, tractors and boats during thunderstorms.

The Duty Meteorologist said these conditions could prevail until the end of the year.

Meanwhile the Disaster Management Centre said heavy winds had caused minor damages to property in several areas of the country.

During the week 173 people belonging to 44 families in the Western and Eastern provinces had faced hardships due to the prevailing weather conditions.
