Vaccinations for A/L students to take place from next week onwards

Leading schools in Colombo will have their Advanced Level students vaccinated against COVID-19 next week, an Education Ministry official said.

Tomorrow, vaccination will take place in VisakhaVidyalaya and St. Pauls’ Girls School in Bambalapitiya. More than 2000 A/L students from Ananda College will get their Pfizer vaccine on October 26 and 27.

More than 1000 students from St. Peter’s College and Hindu College will be administered with the vaccine on October 28 at the St. Peter’s College health office.

Next week will also see vaccination taking place in Muslim Ladies College, D.S.Senanayake College, Isipathana College
and Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya.

More than 500 students from Methodist College will receive their Pfizer vaccine on November 1, while students from St. Bridget’s Convent, Ladies College and Buddhist Ladies College will be vaccinated at St. Bridget’s Convent health office on November 2, the official said.

A/L students from Ramanathan Hindu Ladies College, Holy Family Convent, Musaeus College, Wesley College, Devi BalikaVidyalaya, Zahira College and St. Joseph’s College are to receive their vaccine in the first week of November. Vaccinations for A/L students from other schools in the Western province will take place in a number of leading schools.

This week, in the Colombo zone, vaccinations took place in a number of schools. More than 1500 students (1630) from Royal College Colombo were administered with US manufactured vaccines at the school health office. Similarly, 898 students from Nalanda College, 964 students from Mahanama College, 478 students from St. Benedict’s College, 833 students from Thurstan College and 509 students from Defence Services College were vaccinated against the virus.

Meanwhile, vaccinations also took place this week in schools in the Homagama, Piliyandala and Sri Jayawardenapura education zones in the Colombo district.
