Abhishek Anandakumar, the captain of the 2020/2021 Under-19 cricket team and a senior prefect of Trinity College, Kandy, won the Ryde Gold Medal awarded to the ‘Best All Round Student for the Year 2020 of the school.

Abhishek started his cricket career at Under-13 level in 2012 and went on to lead the First XI outfit in his last year. He represented in the Under-15 and Under-19 Central Province teams and Team Kandy in the Super Provincial Under-19 Tournament in 2019. He was the vice captain of Sri Lanka Under-15 outfit which toured Malaysia in 2017.

Further he has led at all levels at Trinity starting from Under-13 to Under-19 in cricket. He was the vice captain of the 2019/2020 Trinity side which won the All Island Best Team award.

During the last two seasons, he scored more than 650 runs and took over 70 wickets while winning his cricket ‘Lion’. He scored a magnificent century against St. Servatius College, Matara in his last year with the team. His best for Trinity was against Lumbini College, where he claimed figures of 8 for 54, which stands tall in the record books of the Kandy school. He won the ‘Lion’ in 2019 and was awarded with the senior prefect of the school.

Abhishek went on to represent Kurunegala Youth CC, Negombo CC, Tri Youth CC, Kandy Youth CC, Old Trinitians SC and Kandy CC in domestic cricket.

Trinity College, which has produced some outstanding cricketers in the past such as Denham Madena, Chaminda Unantenne, Nilantha Ratnayake, Kaushalya Weeraratne, Ravi Ratnayake, Lahiru Kumara, Niroshan Dickwella and Kumar Sangakkara in the last three decades. Many of them went on to represent the national team, and Abhisheik intends to repeat performance when he starts with his club cricket in the near future. He is tipped to join either Chilaw Marians or Nondescript Cricket Club.
