With another 145 COVID-19 related deaths reported yesterday, Sri Lanka’s total pandemic death toll reached the 9,951 mark.

By yesterday, the total active cases were 63,844, while the total number of cases reported so far is 456,126.

According to the Presidential Secretariat’s COVID-19 live dashboard, higher numbers of deaths are from the age groups of 71-80, 61-70 and above 80 respectively. Among the victims, 57 percent are male and 43 female.

Early this week, the country recorded the highest number of 571,589 COVID-19 vaccinations administered on a single day. More than nine million people have received both doses of the vaccine, according to the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry.

On Thursday, the Health Ministry rolled out a fresh vaccination initiative of inoculating the 20-30 age group at district level.

The inter-provincial travel ban will continue to be effective until September 13 in terms of the quarantine curfew regulations, according to National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

However, the Health authorities say they have taken steps to ensure that vaccination initiatives continue across the island despite the curfew.
