Last week the Government said it will establish a separate radio channel for distance learning in schools.

Accordingly, the Education and Mass media Ministries will jointly have a radio channel that will cater to children in the primary, secondary and higher education levels. Officials believe this move will lessen the disparity that exists in online education where many children face disadvantages.

Several children were deprived of online classes due to lack of signals in rural areas and many others could not afford to purchase smart phones. laptops and other devices.

Arrangements are also being made to use a Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation channel to broadcast education programmes until the infrastructure for the new channel is built.
