Tharushi Dilesha, a 19-year-old student of Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya, Kadawatha, won the Under-20 Girls’ Singles title at the Women’s Table Tennis Championship held at the Gampaha Indoor Stadium. Tharushi, who started her playing career in January 2016, prospered to become a promising paddler with hard practice and experience.

She possesses a natural talent for the game, as Tharushi peaked to her best performance at the tournament held to coincide with the International Women’s Day on March 8.

The youngster receives much encouragement from Renuka Priyadarshani, the principal of Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya, who supports all sports equally including table tennis. The school authorities take a lot of interest in sports activities and encourage all students to engage in any kind of extracurricular activity.

Tharushi pursues her dream of becoming a top paddler with the encouragement and support given to her by the school authorities and the guidance of her coach.
