The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) is drafting guidelines for platform developers, mooting further broad-basing of the CSE.

The platforms will be hosted by the CSE on the CSE digital app, officials told the Business Times.

This came after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) decided to facilitate operators of digital platforms to offer its subscriber/member base investments in the share market via such digital platforms with the objective to broad-base and widen the investor base in the CSE. The regulator has in principle sanctioned to include telco operators to introduce share trading in their platforms in a bid to give a wide choice for investors.

The existing mobile app will be further improved to make it more user-friendly by making the app available in three languages and including other macroeconomic indicators to the app to enable carrying out detailed analysis.

By enabling such digital platforms, the SEC envisages the awareness and educational levels of the general public on available investment opportunities on the stock market would widen while enabling any potential investor to seamlessly access the stock market for investment purposes.
