Sri Lanka’s telecom industry regulator is to launch the Lotus Tower, the country’s tallest structure as an epicentre of technology, by year-end.

“We want the Lotus Tower to spark innovation,” Oshada Senanayake, Chairman Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRC) told the Business Times. On the first floor of the 350-metre-tall tower, a hub of innovation is to be spread across 10, 000 square feet which can showcase the 5G applications and capabilities, he added.

Telco operators will be encouraged to display their technological prowess within the Lotus Tower.

“Lotus Tower will also be the home of an E sports arena,” Mr. Senanayake added noting that the TRC will utilise the Lotus Tower as an incubator for local and foreign companies trying to launch their products.

The telco regulator has introduced a spectrum management framework to streamline spectrum allocation while addressing structural challenges and trends that have long inhibited the telecommunications industry’s progress to create an energetic, competitive and state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, he added.   (DEC)
