Basnayake reappointed president of CPRFU
Central Province Rugby Football Union (CPRFU) and its current committee were re-appointed at their virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) which took place recently. This virtual event took place due to the prevailing pandemic situation in the country.
Former Trinity, Kandy SC, national rugby skipper and double International, Pradeep Basnayake was re-appointed as the President while former Trinity, Havelocks and national player, Kavinda Jayasena was re-appointed as the Secretary. Former Ananda rugby player during late 80′s and planter, Manjula Samarakoon will continue in tandem as the Vice President.
“We initiated many rugby programmes during this period. Handing over of rugby balls, development programmes to lesser known schools in the Central region plus all arrangements were made to conduct the Central Province Under 19 Sevens and XV-a-side events but due to Covid we could not conduct these events. Further we did strength and conditioning training event under Mothilal Jayathilake and Level 1 coaching programme where more than 15 participated. We are all out to give a helping hand to one of the oldest rugby events in the country the Plantation Sevens. This is scheduled to take place during August 2021,” said Jayasena.
