Thissapura Vidyalaya spikers honour contributor with volleyball statue

Thissapura Vidyalaya of Uhana, a school located in the Ampara region, which has a rich history of volleyball, has a student force of 250. The school has recorded numerous victories in the field of school volleyball, is however an institution that does not even possess the basic facilities to its students.
Under such background, the volleyball players of Thissapura Vidyalaya has managed to record wins that put this tiny institution on the map of the local sporting arena. The school from the eastern part of Sri Lanka, received support from well-wishers, including Gamini Dodampe, who heads the Milano, Italy branch of the Nation Development National Movement.
Dodampe has contributed Thissapura Vidyalaya by ways of financial support from his personal wealth as well as by spearheading projects that generated funds for the school. With the support spearheaded by Dodampe, the volleyball players were able to receive the much needed basics, from nutrition to sports equipments to record continuous wins at Schools Championships and other volleyball competitions.
Recently Dodampe personally visited the school after making prearrangements with the school’s principal Chaminda Udayakumara. The school authorities made sure to make the visit a memorable one, as they made arrangements to build a statue and monument designed to remember the contribution made by Dodampe and his movement.
The school authorities had the support of Chaminda Thilak Jayasena, the OIC of Ampara Police, Indunil de Silva and all volleyball players of Thissapura Vidyalaya in organising a simple yet memorable event on Dodampe’s visit.
