Goodbye Saman
Saman Weeraman was a man of many parts. He was actively involved in the cinema industry. He was a producer, director, writer and quite often the main person behind the scene, who somehow made things happen. There are numerous projects / productions that would never have happened if not for his involvement.
Saman was a lawyer, a provincial councilor, a media advisor, working director of ITN and the producer and creator of a number of musical scores and events.I was lucky to have his friendship.We travelled together with the producer of the film, to Myanmar, Thailand and India in search of suitable locations to shoot the movie ‘Siddhartha Gautama.Saman and I, with the help of many others brought the story of “Siddhartha” to the screen. He was very proud of it.Saman made a major contribution to the film industry while he was the General Manager of the National Film Corporation and later as a screenplay writer and producer of numerous films.
Saman did not use the word “No” in his vocabulary. He was always there to help and find a way forward.I shall miss our discussions and numerous meetings at the club over a drink.His early demise is a loss to the local film industry.He was looking to the future with great anticipation with numerous projects planned.I shall surely miss my friend,Saman..Chandran Rutnam
