A 47- year- old mother of two succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday after being hit by a bus while she was on the pedestrian crossing. The bus was transporting army personnel in Kalutara.

Sunitha Malkanthi met with the accident on March 15 while she was was using the zebra crossing near the Kalutara Divisional secretariat, along with her two children and another pregnant woman.

All four of them were injured.

A relative of the deceased said she had succumbed to her injuries on March 31, while being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Nagoda hospital.

Kalutara police said the bus driver who was produced before the Kalutara Magistrate on March 16 and was in remand  until March 29, was given bailed.

However since  the suspect is in remand prison for 14 days in accordance to COVID-19 health guidelines, he will be produced in court on Tuesday.
