Half tons by Vinuda Liyanage and skipper Nipunaka Fonseka helped St Peter’s record a massive 125-run win over Dharmaraja Kandy in the Under 19 inter-school limited over cricket encounter played at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

The foundation for the win was laid by skipper Nipunaka who made 77 off 63 (3×4, 1×6) and Vinuda who made an unbeaten 64 to propel them to a formidable 265 for 7 in their 50 overs.

Dharmaraja in their turn despite a knock of 61 coming from Pulindu Perera were able to muster a score of only 140 runs.

Royal had a narrow escape as they had to work hard for their close six-run win against Gurukula MV Kelaniya played at Reid Avenue. The match reduced to 31 overs due to late start saw Royal helped by an unbeaten knock of 92 by skipper Ahan Wickramasinghe and a half ton by Kavindu Pathiratana making 210 for 3. Gurukula MV in their run chase gave the Royalist’s some anxious moments before falling short by six runs.

Mahinda Galle along with St Thomas Matara and St Anthony’s Wattala recorded wins against Thurstan, St Anne’s Kurunegala and Devapathiraja MMV Rathgama.
