‘Golden Globe Awards’ Best Picture nominated Hollywood Comedy thriller ‘Promising Young Woman’ released in theatres in and around Colombo.
Named as one of the ten best films of 2020 by the National Board of Review, Carey Mulligan who played the titular role won the Best Actress at the 78th Golden Globe Awards’ while received four other nominations.
Along with Mulligan, the film stars Bo Burnham, Alison Brie, Clancy Brown, Jennifer Coolidge, Laverne Cox, and Connie Britton.
The feature directorial debut of Emerald Fennell, the film narrates around a young woman, who was traumatized by a tragic event in her past, seeks out vengeance against those who crossed her path. Pushing thirty, and defined by a hideous crime involving her bosom friend, Nina, emotionally scarred medical school dropout, Cassie, knows firsthand that some wounds never heal. Leading an uneventful existence, still living with her parents, waiting tables at a cheap coffee shop to earn a living, Cassie has found the perfect way to deal with the painful past. Dressed to kill, at night, Cassie frequents the local bars and nightclubs, pretending to be dead-drunk, utterly helpless and vulnerable. By March 1, ‘Promising Young Woman’had grossed US dollars 9 million with USD 5.2 million in the United States and Canada.
Promising Young Woman is now being screened at Liberty by Scope Cinemas, Colombo City Centre, Savoy –Colombo and Rajagiriya, Empire, PVR – Cinemas and Majestic Ultra Cinema.
