Jaffna Royals and Nallur Brongos maintained their unbeaten record in the ongoing Gnanam Champions Trophy T20 cricket tournament which is being played at St. Patrick’s College ground in Jaffna.

Jaffna Royals won both their matches against Ariyalai Kailladikai and Chundukuli Eagles while Nallur Brongos recorded wins over North Conquerors and Kokuvil Stars as the two teams took the top slots in the two groups.

Chundukuli Eagles with two wins from three outings is in second place in Group ‘A’ followed by Vadamaradchchi Venkaikal while Aggressive Boys and North Conquerors are second and third in Group ‘B’.

The Gnanam Champions Trophy T20 tournament which is being played in the Jaffna district for the first ever time is being contested by ten teams divided into two groups of five in each namely Ariyalai Kailladikai, Chulipuram Vikings, Chundikuli Eagles, Jaffna Royals and Vadamaradchchi Venkaikal in Group ‘A’ and Aggressive Boys, Jaffna Panthers, North Conquerors, Kokuvil Stars and Nallur Brongos in Group ‘B’.

Vijayaratnam Prabavan, proprietor of the Gnanam Paints, who are the main sponsors of the Champions Trophy T20 tournament played in memory of his father, has come forward to conduct this tournament with the aim of supporting the talented players from the Jaffna district and also to give the youngsters an opportunity of playing for clubs in Colombo in the likes of Vijayakanth Viyaskanth who played in the Lanka Premier League recently.

The tournament will be continued over the next weekend.
