The intake of last year’s grade five scholarship examination students has been delayed by a month, Education Ministry Secretary Kapila Perera said.

Prof. Perera said during this period, the Ministry would look into allegations over the increased cut off marks issued to admit students to popular schools.

Teacher unions and parents’ associations protested and said cut off marks issued by the Education Ministry a few weeks ago, had been increased in an unfair manner denying opportunities for many bright students from villages to enrol in leading schools.
