Secure overall kits for vocational trainees from January 2021 onwards
View(s):The Government is planning to provide a secure overall kit for the students under vocational training in its workshops, the Cabinet has decided.
The Cabinet said considerable portion of provisions had been made in the budget 2021 for expanding vocational education by increasing the number of students annually enrolled from 100,000 to 200,000 rendering priority to sectors with a high market demand.
Already nine institutions are in operation to provide training related to the workshops and construction sites implemented under the Skills Development Vocational Education, Research and Innovations State Ministry.
According to a Government statement, about 30,000 apprentices are undergoing training at present under the purview of these institutions, whereas a swelling number of 40,000 students were expected to be recruited next year, an Education Ministry official said.
It had been planned to provide an overall kit per head for the trainees so their security during the training programmes and workshops was ensured. They can be engaged in the relevant training as a novel vocational technician which is better than a traditional mechanic, the statement further read.
Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the proposal submitted bythe Education Minister for providing a secure overall kit to students enrolled in vocational education institutes, from January 2021 onwards. The overall kits were to be manufactured and ordered from the RanaviruApparel Institute run by the Sri Lanka Armed Forces.
