‘The Sri Lanka Magic Circle’, one of the oldest Cultural and Entertainment Associations in Sri Lanka, is gearing itself to celebrate its ‘Century of Magic’ on February 18, 2022.

The Sri Lanka Magic Circle is a state-recognised institute of magicians that has been around since the year 1922. Back in the ‘50s, they formed troupes and performed island wide and members have since won local and international awards.

This 98 year old Magic Circle, inaugurated in 1922 continues to build up professionalism in the performing art of magic.

Magic contests for rope, coins, card and silk were held recently at the ‘Vishmithapaya’, ‘House of Sri Lanka Magic Circle’ at No. 156, Templers Road, Mount Lavinia, in the presence of a distinguished audience.

It was encouraging to observe that two young school going teenagers, performed skillfully in an entertaining manner after being trained by several senior award winning stalwarts of the Magic Circle.

Master Manuka Hewapathirana of Nalanda College was adjudged the Winner of the ‘Rope and Coin Magic contests’ and Master Santosh Mathavan of Stafford International School was adjudged the Winner of the ‘Cards and Silk Magic Contests’ categories.

The dainty trophies were donated by Vice President Asanka Pathirana and awards were presented by Rohan Jayasekera, the President of Sri Lanka Magic Circle, Sanjeeva Hewapathirana (Trainer) vetaran Kala Bushana Chandrasena Gamage and veteran Kala Keerthi Ronald de Alwis (President Emeritus).

Youngsters and adults interested in joining the age old Sri Lanka Magic Circle could contact Rohith. J. Silva on 0777587112 for details.

In Sri Lanka the ratio of magicians to the population is one to two hundred thousand. Becoming a magician and a member of the Magic Circle makes one a very exclusive person.
