Malay Confederation elects new officials

The Sri Lanka Malay Confederation (SLAMAC) established on 18 August 1984 is the umbrella body of all the Malay Associations in Sri Lanka numbering 26.

The body was formed to preserve the Malay’s rich heritage and culture and promote unity, understanding, cooperation and harmony among Malays and Malay organisations in Sri Lanka and to promote, uphold and maintain friendly relations with all other communities in Sri Lanka.

The Biennial General Meeting 2020 was held recently at the historic Colombo Malay Cricket Club premises, “The Padang” situated at Jalan Padang, Colombo 2. The following office bearers were elected for the 2020/2022.

Secretary General – Riza Azoor (Conference of Sri Lankan Malays).

Asst. Secretary General – Zaharan Haleed (Mabole Malay Association).

Treasurer General – Thassim Junkeer (Kumpulan Melayu Battaramulla).

Asst. Treasurer General – Akmal Hamza (Kurunegala Malay Association).

Legal Advisor – Shafiudeen Risham (Ruhunu Malay Association).

Co-Presidents – Taarik Booso (Mattegoda Malay Association), Shibly Marjan (Perkumpulan Melayu Di Puttalam),  Soekarno Ousmand (Sri Lanka Malay Association),  Aswan Bangsajayah (Kumpulan Melayu Kotikawatte), Mohamed Fareen Ghaffoor (Kandy Malay Association), Sandra Sourjah (Women’s Association of Sri Lanka Malays), and Rilwan Lantra (SLMA Rupee Fund)
