PM chief guest at SL China Society’s China Day ceremony

The Sri Lanka China Society, in coordination with the Chinese Embassy, celebrated the 71st National Day of China on September 28 at the BMICH.

The chief guest was Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. Health Minister Pavitra Wanniarchchi, former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, and the Chinese Embassy’s chargé d’affaires Hu Wei participated as special guests.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Sirimal Abeyratne, Professor in Economics at the University of Colombo. He spoke on ‘Sri Lanka’s Post-Covid Economic Progress and China-Lanka Relations’. Dr Palitha Kohona, ambassador-designate to China, and Mr Hu Wei also addressed the gathering.

The Prime Minister presented prizes to winners of the Asian Art Competition held in Benxi, China. The Sri Lanka China Society presented to the invitees the first copies of the special souvenir published to mark the 71st National Day of China.
