Army Commander’s T20 begins tomorrow

Adhering to playing guidelines of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Sri Lanka Army will kick off its high-scale cricket tournament, the Army Commander’s Twenty20 League, featuring a large number of national players from tomorrow.

The four-team competition will kickoff tomorrow at Dombagoda in Kalutara and Saliyapura in Anuradhapura and will end with the final on October 17. The four teams in contention are Northern Warriors, Eastern Warriors, Southern Warriors and Western Warriors.

National cricketers who joined Sri Lanka Army recently — former Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal, Thisara Pererea, Seekkuge Prasanna and Asela Gunaratne will lead the four teams while the at least three each national players have been included into each team.

Seekkuge Prasanna led Super Fashion Northern Warriors will comprise Dasun Shanaka (SSC), Akila Dhananjaya (Colts) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (BRC). After a long break Asela Gunaratne, who was forced out of cricket due to an injury, will lead of the Prima Stella Eastern Warriors which also include Kusal Mendis (CCC), dashing opener Sandun Weerakkody (SSC) and bowling allrounder Chathuranga de Silva.

Dinesh Chandimal will lead the DIMO Southern Warriors, which will have the services of fast bowler Suranga Lakmal, Dushmantha Chameera and emerging leg spinning all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. Thisara Perera led Melbn Western Warriors include Sri Lanka limited over opener Avishka Fernando, pacers Nuwan Pradeep and Dhammika Prasad.

Each team will be compulsorily include two Under-23 players while others slots will be filled by cricketers from Sri Lanka Army, according to the organisers. Each team will face the other twice during the 13-day tournament with two matches scheduled to be played in the morning and evening on match days. The final will be played on October 17 at Saliyapura ground.

October 8: Western vs Eastern; Northern vs Southern

October 9: Southern vs Eastern; Northern vs Western

October 10: Western vs Southern; Eastern vs Northern

October 13: Northern vs Southern; Eastern vs Western

October 17: Final
