A database containing details of all school children will be launched by the Education Ministry before the end of this year, a senior Ministry official said.

Already the data of 3.7 million students has been uploaded to the database and the information of another 600,000 students has to be updated.

The database would provide education authorities with access to information such as student numbers in each class, student attendance, student transfers and other information.

The respective class teachers would have access to the database to update the information , and the information would also be sent in writing to the respective zonal education office.

The students’ family details as well as information on the health condition too, would be included. When the database is expanded further, student performance would also be included in it.

The parents too would be able to access the database and download the school reports of their children, under the proposed plan.

The database would also be helpful to analyse student performance and appropriate action can be taken.

Moreover, when students transfer between schools, the principal of their previous school and principal of their new school need to update the relevant information.
