Abilities and Talents

Different people have different abilities in this world. Some people are good at their studies while some are good in aesthetic activities such as music, dancing, painting and drama etc. Some of them have abilities and talents for sports and technical activities.

The most important thing is we have to identify our abilities and talents as early as possible in our life. If you can identify your true potential then you can succeed in it.

There is a popular saying,
“You do not know what you can do, till you try it”. It clearly says that we have to work hard with a strong determination to be successful. Therefore it is our duty to get the maximum benefits from our abilities and talents.

Days in face masks in 2016

These days we see many people in the world wearing facial masks due to the Corona virus. Whenever I see people in face masks it brings back an old memory.  This happened in the month of October in 2016.

One day when I was in school, all of a sudden I started to sense a scent of smoke lingering in the atmosphere. That day my grandfather picked me up early from school. He told me that the white fog that was around was a toxic smoke owing to a fire that had erupted in the garbage dump in Badulla Town.

Badulla is a beautiful city which is surrounded by the Namunukula range of mountains. Unfortunately, there had been a large garbage dump in the centre of the city. So somebody had set it on fire.

Later my grandfather brought a lot of face masks and we wore them for several days, whenever we went to the town. Soon it became the limelight of the country.

Now I am no longer living in this wonderful city but the garbage mound is still there in the centre of the city, destroying its natural beauty and the health of the people who are living there.

Without education we are incomplete and our lives are useless. Education helps us to set a goal and go ahead by working on that goal throughout the life. It improves our knowledge, skill, confidence level and personality. It empowers us intellectually to interact with others in our life.

Education brings maturity and teaches us to live in society with the changing environment. It is the way to social development, economic growth and technological development.

Let’s live in harmony in our country

We are Sri Lankans. We live in a multi ethnic society. We live collectively in this country. We are very proud to say that we are Sri Lankans because all ethnic groups live in one land together.

We know each others culture. We have Buddhist culture, Hindu culture, Muslim culture and Christianity. We respect each other and share ideas with others.  We respect other’s ideas. In this way we can live in harmony in our country.

When we live like this we can build a prosperous country.

For example, we should greet other ethnic groups when they have festivals, we should share food with them, we should participate in community activities with others, we should help them when they are sick or in trouble, we should donate money when they are in need.

I think in this way we can develop good relationships with other groups in our country.  I think this leads to a peaceful environment in our country. We can live together very happily.
