Modern day lifestyles require most of us to be busier than we were yesterday. Our lives are bound by more commitments and to-do accomplishments than our parents were. Certain commitments force us to embrace lifelong changes, some more drastic than the others such as migrating to a foreign country, shifting residences closer to the workplace, children’s school or day care, working long hours etc.

Being away from your parents or loved ones as a result of these choices is somewhat common in modern families. But regardless of what your commitments demand, you cannot neglect certain important responsibilities such as looking after your parents and loved ones during the last stage of their lives. This is a time they rely on you.

Taking good care of your parents or loved ones in your absence is a challenging task. If you are living overseas or far away from them, the situation is much more difficult. Most people opt to hire a maid or a caretaker to live with their parents and take care of them. However, finding a suitable and trustworthy caretaker whom you can rely on is one daunting task.

Identifying this huge vacuum, Qwest has launched Qwest Care, the first Companion Care service to be established in Sri Lanka. A relatively new concept in Sri Lanka, companion care is a very popular and widely accepted type of care service in many countries and identified to be a very viable solution to fulfil the needs of this group.

Qwest Care, the newest addition to the Qwest family, is a befriending service offering friendship, care and support to those who require companionship and assistance for a variety of reasons.

After thorough consideration, Qwest Care has carefully identified a range of services for its care receivers. Two of the most regular services are telephone conversations and visits at pre-agreed intervals. A “Telephone Conversation”will be up to an average of 30 minutes. These telephone conversations are aimed at saying “hello again” and having a chat with the care receivers to ensure they are doing fine, and also to find out if they would require any assistance  or to ensure they are not feeling isolated or lonely.

“Visiting” is another main service provided at Qwest Care. It could be a routine visit of up to an average of two hours as part of the agreed schedule to sit down and have a laugh with them and share some life experiences.

Qwest Care also offers “Qwest Gifts” with attractive gifts such as hampers or a range of hobby items.

The visits could even be a quick drop-in for an errand, or in order to assist them or to attend to something they cannot do themselves such as getting skilled support  – a plumber to fix a broken water pipe or an electrician to fix an electrical issue at the care receiver’s residence. The cost involved is handled very transparently and informed to the client in advance and prior approval will be obtained before the actual work begins.

Accompanying elders to the doctor, or airport pick-ups or drops, shopping or any other appointments can also be arranged to ensure they are in safe hands from the moment they are picked up until their drop-off. Qwest Care also makes arrangements to assist the elderly with receiving spiritual services from clergy and visiting religious venues or events, not to mention arranging surprises on birthdays or anniversaries.

All care receivers are assigned two Qwest Care team members whom the company guarantees as responsible and caring individuals. The same two individuals will attend to the services of the respective care receiver.

Qwest Care has introduced a number of monthly service packages for clients to choose from depending on their requirement and affordability. Clients are welcome to request for a customized service package for their parents or loved ones.

A well known name in the hospitality, travel and tourism industry in Sri Lanka, Qwest was launched in 2005, its first venture, Qwest Destinations specializing in inbound and outbound travel, operating tours to over 100 destinations in the world. Qwest launched Qwest Care in June 2020 taking another leap in the industry by beginning the first ever Companion Care service in Sri Lanka.
