With the country reopening in the post-Covid-19 era, the public have been asked to adapt to the ‘new normal’ and practise health guidelines and ‘social distancing’ to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

For most people, this is an entirely new challenge as they must adhere to these guidelines when going about their day-to-day lives. This is especially true when using public transport.

Authorities are extremely strict when it comes to ensuring guidelines on health and social distancing are followed. However, while people are adhering to the guidelines when authorities are present, when they are left to themselves, most people still choose to ignore the safety measures, especially when it comes to social distancing.

These pictures show how many people who have returned to Colombo are clearly ignoring the social distancing guidelines that authorities have stressed on for weeks now. People are yet to realise that wearing a face mask alone will not prevent Covid-19. A change of behaviour is required for the country to avoid a disaster.
