The Ministry of Sports is on the verge of introducing three national committees, targeting the future development of Sri Lanka sports.

The three earmarked entities are the National Coaches’ Committee, National Technical Officials’ Committee and National Referees’ Committee.

This initiative comes as a result of requests made by different fraternities of the local sports arena, as the Ministry of Sports took a step further in responding positively. The ministry intends to include the three national committees through a special gazette when Parliament is summoned after the general elections.

“Experts and stakeholders have been constantly pointing out the lapse of not having such committees for some time now. The Ministry of Sports seriously considered this matter and decided that the best way forward is to make the first step by introducing them,” K.D.S. Ruwanchandra, the Director General to the Ministry of Sports, stated.

“When the ministry gets involved with matters and crisis pertaining to sports associations and federations, officials and athletes, our officials spend a considerable amount of time, at times without any progress. If we had national committees as proposed, the ministry could forward the matters to them and obtain positive outcomes,” he added.
