INSEE Cement Sri Lanka, has extended vital support to the authorities towards dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and helping to build a resilient nation. INSEE Sanstha cement stepped forward to provide valuable resources towards construction of the healthcare management centre for COVID-19 in Iranawila, Puttalam, the company said in a media release.

The objective of the building was to establish a dedicated facility and help increase the capacity of major hospitals treating suspected COVID-19 patients.

Additionally, INSEE Cement Sri Lanka, donated Sanstha cement towards the construction of a vital CT scan building at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH), a philanthropic initiative carried out by Engineering Association of University of Moratuwa, in the forefront of Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 battle.

Understanding the shortage of personal protective equipment such as face masks, which has become a serious challenge, INSEE provided over 12,000 face masks and essential stationery items to personnel in the frontline. These donations were to support Sri Lanka Police officers and healthcare workers who are on-duty.

“As a responsible company, INSEE Cement Sri Lanka understands the importance of directing our resources and leveraging our expertise and capabilities to assist those in need. The health, well-being and prosperity of our nation is crucial and we aim to continue to contribute towards building a resilient Sri Lanka,” said Nandana Ekanayake, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of INSEE Cement Sri Lanka.

In recognising the impact of the pandemic on vulnerable communities, INSEE is additionally supporting communities in the areas close to its operations in Puttalam and Galle. The INSEE Puttalam Cement Plant Management and Corporate Social Responsibility teams reached up to dozens of families, distributing dry rations and food supplies. These families were selected by the Puttalam Divisional Secretariat, Grama Niladari and INSEE-Puttalam Community Advisory Panel representatives to ensure the welfare of these communities and the most vulnerable are supported. Meanwhile, in an initiative driven by INSEE Ruhunu Cement plant employees, a pool of volunteer employees, former INSEE employees, their families and friends voluntarily joined together, collected funds and have been supporting over 140 daily wage-earning families in Galle with food supplies.

Commenting on Sanstha Cement brand’s involvement, Jan Kunigk, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Innovation of INSEE Cement Sri Lanka said, “As a responsible cement brand, we are honoured to support in building much-needed healthcare management centres whilst assisting our healthcare, military and Sri Lanka Police heroes fight COVID-19.”
