Maharagama Police have started using a disinfectant contraption put together by an area resident.

Maharagama Chief Inspector H.H Jankantha said when Anuruddha Abeykoon informed him of his idea to create the contraption they had provided him some of the necessary equipment and allowed him to work at the police station.”He even used some of his own equipment to build the machine,” the chief inspector said.

He said everyone who has been entering the police premises for the past seven days first steps into this machine.

“This is vital for the police personnel, as most of them are out on road duty. We are the first police station in the country to instal such a contraption. It would be good if it can be further developed and used in all the police stations across the country,” he added.

Mr Abeykoon who works on electronic equipment said he has got many requests for more.

His contraption comprises a 400-watt air blower and jet pump.

“The person who enters the disinfector machine just presses a button and he is sprayed by the disinfectant liquid (ethanol),” he said.

He said that both the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine and Medical Supply Division have requested for four more machines.
