Kiwi women thrash Lankan lasses

After a stunning performance in the warm-up game, Sri Lanka Women were thrashed by New Zealand in their Twenty20 World Cup opening match by 7 wickets in the third Group match at Perth, Australia yesterday.

Chasing a 128-run target, New Zealand women recorded comprehensive win with 14 balls to spare.

New Zealand Women’s captain, opener Sophie Devine steered the side smashing an unbeaten 75 runs off 55 balls including two sixes and six fours.

Earlier, Lankan Women were restricted for 127 runs losing seven wickets. After losing dashing skipper Chamari Atapattu for 41 off 30, Sri Lanka women were losing wickets at regular intervals. Atapattu, who is in tremendous form hit a couple of sixes and five boundaries before she was being caught off the Lea Tahuhu.

Sri Lanka Women will face Australia Women on February 24 at the same venue in their second Group game.
