The Education Ministry will set up a task force to work out a 10-point policy framework for the education sector.

The task force to be named shortly will sit for six months to draft the policy, which the Ministry believes could be implemented irrespective of a change of government, a senior Education Ministry official said.

A plan to further develop 1,000 schools, looking into required changes in text books, change of syllabi for O/L and A/L, improving facilities for students including changes in the bursary and improving on primary education are among the 10 key areas identified to be included in the policy, the official revealed.

The issues related to recruitment of teachers and avoiding shortages of teachers, principals, and other staff and assuring quality of education are also among other areas being addressed.

The task force members will discuss with researchers and senior educational officers and study previous reports before producing their report, the officer said.

Cabinet approval has already been granted for the setting up of the task force.

This follows the Government’s concern over educational policies being regularly changed.
