Army will meet MAS Leisureline in the men’s final while Air Force face Navy in the women’s final of the Munchee National Volleyball Championship 2019 at the Maharagama National Youth Council Indoor Stadium courts on December 28.

MAS Leisureline marked their maiden appearance in big league volleyball by scoring a resounding victory over last year’s league runner up Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), in the second men’s semifinal of the Munchee National Volleyball Championship 2019 at Sunanda College, Gampaha courts on Wednesday.

For the first time in the history of Sri Lanka national volleyball, a team making their debut appearance has qualified for the finals.

CEB emerged champions in 2017 and were runners-up at the last edition of the event. The team included the present national skipper and deputy skipper along with several national players.

Giant killers MAS Leisureline made their appearance with many junior national players.

In the semifinal, MAS never had things their way as the former champions made them sweat for every point on their way to victory. In an encounter where fortunes swung from end to end, MAS scored a hard fought win 3-2 over a spirited CEB side.

There was another upset in the first semifinal, as Army gunned down last year’s champions Ports Authority 3-0 in a one-sided affair.

In the first women’s semifinal, Air Force scored a close 3-2 victory over Army while Navy women spikers defeated Sri Lanka Ports Authority 3-0 in the other semifinal.
