To mark the 48th Victory Day of Bangladesh that falls on December 16 (tomorrow), the Bangladesh High Commission in Colombo has arranged to telecast a contemporary feature film  “Kingdom of  Clay Subjects”  on ITN tonight at 10 p.m..

The 88 minute  film that falls  under the genre of  family drama, is about a  10-year-old boy, Jamal who loves his carefree life and lives with his mother in rural Bangladesh, until the day his childhood friend and playmate is forced to become a child bride. Isolated and lost, Jamal finds the world a harsh reality when his hopes of making  new friends and attending school collide with his mother’s past.

The director (BijonImtiaz) and producer (Arifur Rahman) brings out some of the challenges and issues that  persist in a typical rural setting.

The film has won many accolades at International Festivals, in 21 months since its release. It was also released commercially in theatres in major cities in Bangladesh. Viewers were particularly struck by the way a rather ordinary tale of a young rural boy could be captured through cinematic treatment.
