Any time women come together with a collective intention, it’s a powerful thing. The 2020 STHRI collection showcases this power with handloom powerhouse Selyn coming together with The Design Collective (TDC) store to launch their latest collection on December 7 at the TDC flagship store.

Known for their efforts to empower women in Sri Lanka through their fair-trading business model, Selyn launched STHRI three years ago as the brainchild of its Head of Business Development, Selyna Peiris. Selyna says, “This year we decided to step out of our comfort zones to bring a truly unique ethical fashion collection which we hope will change the way our customers look at handloom garments. We invited Lonali Rodrigo, one of Sri Lanka’s best zero waste designers as the lead designer for the brand and together we have created a chic modern collection which is versatile and dynamic. We felt that The Design Collective store will be the best place to take this bold step and Shahili Gomez and Binu Wickremasinghe who have always supported our brand opened their doors to us without hesitation.“

This new collection is inspired by the traditional weaving art of “pethanpili” similar to the Indian ikat and simplifies these tie and dye techniques in creating a range of sarees and zero-waste resort wear.
