The ‘Shankar’s International Competition’, organised annually by the Indian High Commission was held at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre — formerly Indian Cultural Centre — yesterday.

High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandhu was the Chief Guest at the twentieth edition of the prestigious event.

Seeing the large turnout of more than 500 young artists from all over Sri Lanka, the High Commissioner complimented parents and teachers for encouraging children to take part in such events which help develop critical thinking, and encourage children to explore new ideas and skills.

The High Commission said the competition provided Sri Lankan children a platform to showcase their talent through art work and essays on the topic “Earth is the only home we have, Treasure it”.
