Lanka Mahila Samiti will hold their popular annual handicraft sale on Tuesday, November 26 at the Lionel Wendt Gallery from 10 a.m to 5.30 p.m
The sale has become a looked-forward-to event where Colombo shoppers get the opportunity to purchase the creations of the Samithi members and support the revival of traditional cottage crafts.
On display will be a wide array of gifts such as “Indikola” table mats, wall hangings, embroidered tablecloths, cushion covers, children’s smocked dresses and ladies nightwear. There will also be batik sarees, blouses, sarongs, skirts, costume jewellery, beeralu and tatting lace and table mats, ekel baskets etc.
Traditional sweetmeats such as kavun, mung kavun, kokis, pickles and chutneys will also be on sale.
The highlight of the day will be a demonstration of creating Beeralu lace by a Samithi member.
