Time for some belly-aching laughter: Gehan Blok (director) and Dino Corea (producer)

Back again to push the boundaries of theatre and performance, Identities Inc. will stage their new stand-up comedy special, Politically ඉන් correct at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on September 20 – 23.

Politically ඉන් correct (Incorrect) will aim to “play on sensibilities while preying on sensitivities” and challenge the ever-changing boundaries of political correctness in society as we know it. The stand-up acts will see the performers revealing more of themselves with personal experiences sans sugar coating, while also giving audiences much to think about and more to laugh about.

This will be the third production by Identities Inc since their formation in 2014 and Gehan Blok’s third time in the director’s chair, with Dino Corera producing the show. Ever since the performing and visual arts company was formed, it has always comprised a group of diverse and talented personalities working to give aspiring artistes an opportunity to shine.

Their first production of David Mamet’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Glengarry Glen Ross was a sold-out hit in 2014, while their second production, The Irish Curse by Martin Casella in 2015 garnered rave reviews for the stellar performances by the cast.

Back again by popular demand are stand-up comedy crowd favourites Gehan Blok, Dino Corera and Dominic Kellar with the addition of Pasan Ranaweera. Those familiar with their work will know that this will be a night of very little holding back, Blok and Corera having built a name for themselves as the two rascals of the Colombo scene.

Since he humbly stepped down as the “honourable President” of Arsikland, Dominic Kellar began his stand-up career as Freddy. Now an independent stand-up performer, Dominic is set to continue entertaining his audience with his engaging sense of humour, and as a key figure in cementing political satire as a mainstay among local audiences.

Pasan Ranaweera has always been known for his memorable portrayal of the bumbling secretary Cyril Nitharamasuffering in the Pusswedilla franchise. Politically ඉන් correct will be his debut stand-up comedy performance, and with his impeccable comic timing, his turn is bound to leave the audience in stitches.

Politically ඉන් correct is an adults only show and has been approved by the Censor/Public Performances Board of Sri Lanka. Tickets priced at Rs.4500, Rs. 3500, Rs. 2500, Rs. 1500 and Balcony Rs. 1000, are available at the Wendt. Call 0112 695 794 for more information.
