A traditional Swiss restaurant ambience in Colombo

Promising an authentic Swiss culinary experience in town, the Colombo Swiss House opened its doors for Lankan fans of Swiss gourmet food from August 15 to 27 at 138/ 4, Kynsey Road, Colombo 7 (next to the UNOPS office).

Following Swiss National Day celebrated on August 1, the Embassy of Switzerland to Sri Lanka and the Maldives in collaboration with Mount Lavinia Hotel offers a chance to discover Swiss cuisine at the pop-up fine dining restaurant, the Colombo Swiss House.

“We have the privilege to have the wonderful Colombo Swiss House, the most original pop-up restaurant in Colombo 7 where you’ll be offered Swiss culinary delights. Starting from Thursday guests dining at the Colombo Swiss House will not only have the unique privilege to taste typical Swiss dishes but also have a chance to win attractive prizes,” noted Hanspeter Mock, Ambassador of Switzerland to Sri Lanka and the Maldives at the media launch held at the venue on Monday, August 12.

The restaurant will feature some hearty Swiss cuisine with a variety of regional influences including French, German and Itallian.

The interior of the Colombo Swiss House closely represents a traditional Swiss restaurant, walls painted with brown stripes to create a wooden panelled effect, checked red and white tablecloths reflecting the colours of the Swiss national flag. Edelweiss, a national symbol of Switzerland painted on the walls and traditional Swiss cowbells hanging from the ceiling.

On the menu are popular favourites such as ‘Raclette,’ a traditional dish from the canton of Valais- melted cheese poured over hot potatoes accompanied by pickles and ‘Fondue,’ a bubbling pot of cheese. There’s chicken zurichoise, roasted lamb back with morel cream sauce, alpine macaroni with apple sauce, cervelat and cheese salad, bundner barley soup and many more dishes paired with Swiss wine along with authentic Swiss dessert options including Swiss apple tart and zuger kirschtorte.

The thirteen day Swiss dining experience has exciting raffle draws too.

Colombo Swiss House is open from August 15 to 27 for dining from 6.30 p.m. onwards. For reservations call 0112711711- Ext 1606.
