Ameerajwad assumes duties as ambassador in Oman

Omar Lebbe Ameerajwad, ambassador-designate of Sri Lanka to Oman, arrived in Muscat on July 10 and assumed duties after a simple ceremony.

Addressing the staff, Mr. Ameerajwad recalled historical relations between Sri Lanka and Oman and set out his targets including promotion of tourism, trade, investment and employment opportunities, in further strengthening relations between the two countries.

Mr. Ameerajwad joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1998 and has served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Director General for East Asia and Pacific Affairs, Director for Middle East and African Affairs and the Desk Officer for the 4th and 5th Council of Ministers Meetings and Other related meetings of the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-RAC) hosted by Sri Lanka in 2003 and 2004 consecutively.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts from the University of Peradeniya and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Colombo.  He also holds a Masters Degree in Laws (LLM) from the University of Colombo.  He was admitted to the Bar as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of
Sri Lanka in 1997.
