The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka celebrated Olympic Day with a multifaceted programme on June 24 and 25, 2019. The flagship event was the Olympic Day Run, held on June 25, with the participation of over 1,000 school children, led by Susanthika Jayasinghe, Sri Lanka’s Olympic medallist.

The initial half of the run was under the caption ‘Give the reef another chance.’ The first event was the beach cleaning programme with over hundred volunteers, including school children. Surfing, swimming, life-saving, beach volleyball and kabaddi also added interest to the event.

Two art competitions involving schools from the Matara area were also held. Pix by Amila Gamage
