NSB- HelpAge partnership benefits less privileged senior citizens
View(s):The National Savings Bank (NSB) conducted its 45th Mobile Medical and Eye Camp in collaboration with HelpAge Sri Lanka at Dampe, Piliyandala on Vesak Full Moon Poya Day.
This is another step taken by NSB through its CSR initiative to conduct a free Medical and Eye Camp for less privileged senior citizens.
In a media release, HelpAge said that NSB has conducted 45 camps during the period commencing from 2016 up to date with over 9000 senior citizens country -wide receiving free medical and eye care services and also Cataract surgeries.
These camps were conducted in the districts of Kurunegala, Kandy, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Hambantota, Ampara, Badulla, Galle, Kegalle , Gampaha, Matara, Moneragala and Anuradhapura.
Apart from free Cataract surgeries, HelpAge also provided the needy elders with bifocal and reading spectacles.
“The NSB management also decided to conduct all its Medical Camps at temple premises on Poya days following the requests of senior citizens committees in the areas and also devotees who attend the usual religious observances,” Helpage said.
NSB Chairman S.N. Wickramasinghe highlighted the valuable service rendered by HelpAge towards a needy sector in the society to improve their health facilities.
Helpage Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge said the free cataract surgeries are conducted at HelpAge Eye Hospital, Wellawatta (opposite Savoy cinema).
He further said that HelpAge expects more and more donations from other banks as well as other donors to fund the increasing demand for free cataract surgeries.
