President, Premier hail Modi’s landslide election victory

President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe extended their good wishes to Indian Premier Narendra Modi on his victory in the recent General Elections.

President Sirisena stated that, “The decision of the people of India to entrust your Party and its alliance partners the responsibility of guiding India’s destiny for a further term, with this renewed mandate, is a clear endorsement of the policies adopted under your stewardship.”

President Sirisena added that, having been associated with Premier Modi, he would like to express his hope that, in the Indian Premier’s second term at India’s helm, bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and India will continue to strengthen, particularly on the economic front.

Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe also extended his wishes to the Indian Premier and to the Bharathiya Janatha Party on their victory at the recent General elections.

“Sri Lanka and India enjoyed strong traditional ties in the political, economic, social and cultural spheres for many centuries. I look forward to working closely with you to forward the ongoing initiatives in our multi-faceted sectors of cooperation, for the mutual benefit of our peoples”, he said

He added that, he is confident that the time tested bilateral friendship between the two countries will be further consolidated and expanded during the consecutive second term of office, of Premier Modi.
