‘Why? Saama’ – Puppetry at the British Council

View(s):

The British Council celebrated International Women’s Day, International Book Day and World Puppet Day with a performance with the tallest female puppet in Sri Lanka on March 23, 2019.

Saama is a little girl who loves to collect questions. At home, in school, on the road – wherever she goes, she finds questions for her ever-growing collection. From the simple to the profound, Saama’s questions bring to light many social norms and challenge the adults around her to question the value of the standards we impose on children growing up in Sri Lanka today.

Performed by finger, hand and giant puppets, and accompanied by original live music, ‘Why? Saama’ is a show that aims to generate important dialogue around the issues of gender, self-confidence and courage to face your own fears and grow into your full giant potential with brief translations in Tamil and English.
