The Mallika Nivasa Samithiya ‘Avurudu Salpila’, held to raise funds for the maintenance of the Homes they run for destitute elderly women and abandoned or orphaned children is on today, Sunday March 31 at 45, Visakha Road, Colombo 4 from 9.30 a.m to 3 p.m.

New and nearly new clothes, sarees, linen, costume jewellery , toys, plants, refreshments and many more items are available at bargain prices.
Mallika Nivasa Samithiya established in October 1920 is one of the leading voluntary social service organisations in the country founded by Mrs. Mallika Hewavitarne – mother of Srimath Anagarika Dharmapala. Her aim was to provide shelter to elderly destitute women.

Inaugurated in February 1921 with just two elders, today the Home cares for nearly 80 elders. The Parakrama Home for orphaned, abandoned boys was established in 1954 in Aniyakanda, Ragama and provides care and education to 40 boys between the ages of 6 to18 years, referred by the Department of Probation & Child Care Services. The Sneha Infants Home established in 1971 cares for 20 infants. A pre- school for children is also managed by Mallika Nivasa and two paying Homes Seth Medura and Seth Sevena care for 30 elders.

The latest addition to their activities is the sales outlet “Rasa Bojun” which sells sweetmeats and shorteats made by the elders.
All are welcome.
